problem with new timing chain and drving the opti

when doing the cam swap and using the CSI pump i was told that i could use a double roller timing chain. so i bought a summit double roller timing chain and now how will the new timing chain drive the opti if it that little gear isnt in the middle of new timing chain?

PLEASE HELP

If you have a 1994, like your name says, someone told you wrong. If you are using the stock splined drive, unvented opti, your only choice for timing gears are stock ones. :( You must have the splines on the cam gear to turn the opti.

Yep... you will need the 95+ opti to work. 95 opti, 95 timing chain cover, and 95 opti harness, and a cam with the larger opening.

Read above. Only the stock gear has the splines to drive the unvented opti. You can use the LT4 if you do a vented conversion.

oh ok just wondering..

Thanks:rolleyes:

Call Jason Cromer and ask him for the 95+ opti conversion kit. He'll give you a vented opti, 95+ timing cover, opti pigtail harness and vacuum lines for around $360 or $380 (can't remember which). Then you can run whatever timing set you want (remember to clearance the inside of the timing cover if you go with a double roller) and an electric water pump.

How can i get a hold of him because I plan on doing cam and heads this spring. I definitely want to get a heavy duty timing gear set.

When you do a cam swap....is the Opti swap a must?

94TA25ann 02-20-2004 12:05 PM

Vented opti conversion

What are all the parts needed, I might just get the parts my self. Is there any links were people have done this?

His number is 1-877-726-8295.

You don't need to change to a vented opti if you're swapping a cam, but it's a good time to do the swap since everything is off anyways. The main reason why I did it was because the vented opti is about $100 cheaper than the non-vented opti.

I'm not sure of what the individual part numbers are for the swap offhand...I can probably post them tomorrow since I have to dig out that receipt tonight so I can send my junk opti back.

Why wouldn't I need to change to a vented opti if I'm swapping the cam. I planned on putting a double roller timing chain in there, so wouldn't I need to convert my non-vented opti to a vented opti and also take out all the water pump gear dowel. I'm confused, so can someone clarify it for me please.

You're right...I was trying to answer too many people at once. If you just want to swap the cam, you don't need to convert anything. If you're swapping the cam and also want to run a standard SBC timing set, you have to do the conversion to the vented opti.

Sorry for the confusion. :)

Thanks, I started to get confused. Thanks for the info.:)
