problem with new timing chain and drving the opti
when doing the cam swap and using the CSI pump i was told that i could use a double roller timing chain. so i bought a summit double roller timing chain and now how will the new timing chain drive the opti if it that little gear isnt in the middle of new timing chain?
PLEASE HELP mike |
If you have a 1994, like your name says, someone told you wrong. If you are using the stock splined drive, unvented opti, your only choice for timing gears are stock ones. :( You must have the splines on the cam gear to turn the opti.

Yep... you will need the 95+ opti to work. 95 opti, 95 timing chain cover, and 95 opti harness, and a cam with the larger opening.

oh ok just wondering..
Thanks:rolleyes: |
Call Jason Cromer and ask him for the 95+ opti conversion kit. He'll give you a vented opti, 95+ timing cover, opti pigtail harness and vacuum lines for around $360 or $380 (can't remember which). Then you can run whatever timing set you want (remember to clearance the inside of the timing cover if you go with a double roller) and an electric water pump.

When you do a cam swap....is the Opti swap a must?
|
Vented opti conversion
What are all the parts needed, I might just get the parts my self. Is there any links were people have done this?

You don't need to change to a vented opti if you're swapping a cam, but it's a good time to do the swap since everything is off anyways. The main reason why I did it was because the vented opti is about $100 cheaper than the non-vented opti. I'm not sure of what the individual part numbers are for the swap offhand...I can probably post them tomorrow since I have to dig out that receipt tonight so I can send my junk opti back. |

I planned on putting a double roller timing chain in there, so wouldn't I need to convert my non-vented opti to a vented opti and also take out all the water pump gear dowel. I'm confused, so can someone clarify it for me please. |
