Pro 5.0 Vibration problem...
Ever since I have installed the Pro 5.0 shifter, it vibrates like crazy at higher rpms. I have checked the bolts, and everything is nice and tight. Has anyone else had this same problem? If so, what have you done to eliminate it? Thanks in advance.
I just put in my B&M ripper a month ago and it did the same so I took it apart made sure torqed to specs everything was good.
Talked to many people and they said its and aftermarket shifter and it will do that. Mine also sounds like it is leaking air - weird.
I just turn up the radio for that.
But as long as you have it properly installed you may be stuck with that.

I don't want to say I know what this is because you say its at higher RPM's.
But my shifter started doing the same thing, problem was not with the shifter, or the tranny mount. One of my spark plug wires got burned through on my header and the miss made the motor go out of balance as it was spinning and the one in results of the motor shaking the transmission(and shifter) were shaking violently. Mine was more at low RPM's. With the car in 6th gear and low RPM's the shifter was jumping like crazy and I fixed the wire and all the shudden the shake went away.
Just finished the 383 install on my cuz's 97 WS6, he put the wires in a bad spot and they got crushed, he asked me what I thought about the shake, so I trouble shot it down the 2 wires that were crushed in between the accessory bracket. So I would check the normal stuff and then look at the wires, plugs etc.
the wires fixed his shake as well.

the stock shifter, as i'm sure you've noticed, are "soft" to me they feel as if they're bending in half when i shift. the aftermarket shifters take away that softness to provide positive shifts.. what you're feeling is driveshaft vibration, as the stock steel shafts are really hard to balance, even from the factory. its a racecar.. not a caddy
Thanks for all the input. The 383 engine is going in in about a month, so I will make sure to check the tranny mount, the wires etc then.. An aluminum driveshaft will be going in along with the 383, so hopefully, my vibration problem will disaapear along with the new motor. Thanks.
I think I may have the same problem as you. In higher RPM's, it almost sounds like there is metal to metal vibration somewhere. It almost sounds like it might be the ball of the shifter hitting the socket in the transmission.(forgive the lack of techincal terms if there are any for these parts) I checked my stops and they aren't the problem. I guess I don't really mind the noise, given how nice the shifter feels, but it would definitely be nice if it wasn't there. Maybe sometime I will take it back apart and see if I can find anything.

Hey, I just noticed the same problem in mine for the past few weeks. I also thought it might be the stops, as it sounds like a metal-on-metal rattle. Tried backing them out a bunch, still there. My rattle is at high RPM too, above around 3,000. I was thinking maybe the shifter ball in the "socket" as well, but I'm hesitant to take off the whole shifter to see about this, and I don't know what I would "adjust" anyway
. I'm going to try to add some more of that clear grease that lubes the shifter to see if that helps. It's kind of wierd, I've had this shifter for almost a year and I never had this rattle noise before, even with a bad driveline vibe that I've since bettered! Wierd.... Let me know if you guys found a fix. Thanks
