priming oil pump

im doing a le2 package on my car and everything going back in is being replaced (lifters pushrods, rockers etc.) i was wondering if you have to prime the oil pump. or if its ok to just soak everything in oil and crank the motor over a few times before i start it.

Re: priming oil pump

For just a simple cam swap, lifters, rockers you would not have to. Just make sure you lube up the cam pretty good on the journals and if you want soak the lifters and than install them. Crank the car up and watch the oil pressure. Make sure everything is clean before installing the cam.

Re: priming oil pump

Assembly lube is what I used. Just unplug the PCM, turn it over for a good 10-15 seconds and prime the oil. It won't hurt anything. Better safe than sorry.
