Power steering pump exploded!!
 

I just replaced my power steering pump about 2 months ago. It is under full warranty still.

This evening, I was making a left turn at a stoplight, and all of a sudden the power steering completely failed. It was really wierd. I almost swerved off the road trying to control the car. I limped it home with no power steering, which isn't that big of deal.

I inspected the system when I got home, and I was amazed. THe resivoir was still full, but the fluid was full of shiny metal flecs. The PS pump pulley was sticking halfway out. THe belt was perfectly aligned on all the other pulleys, but it was only halfway on the PS pump pulley. THe pulley had walked forward at least a half inch.

WTF????

Sounds like the shaft broke.

Make sure when you fix it you flush out the old fluid from the rack or you may have this very same problem again.
