Power steering?
 

My pump is going out for power steering, is it possible to bypass it altogether and just run it with the power steering rack? I know there is a way i can do it with a belt that just uses alternator and crank pully but i was wondering if the rack will still work without it, im sure it will be a PAIN to turn. Any thoughts?

Just replace the pump. Driving it without the PS sucks. Even more when driving slow or parking.

Autozone has one for $69 and easy to deal with with returning the core. RockAuto is even cheaper but I don’t think it’s going to be worth it shipping the pump and shipping the core back.
For $69+tax I’d rather have my PS.

Agree with what everyone else has said - I fried the stock pump during my second autocross event (hot day, tight course) and it was almost impossible to steer at low RPM. A stock style replacement is not expensive and a relatively easy job. If you ever plan to run the car in an HPDE or Autocross event, you may want to look into an upgraded pump from 'Turn One'.

Honestly i plan on ditching the rack for a manual one soon anyways with a bmr k member and entire front end, just wanted to know if i can run it without it for now. The thing is to i want to drop all that weight off the front, the ac, the ps, all that crap i don't need, extra brackets ext. I have driven one without ps and yes it was a bitch but not impossible lol.

No matter where you get a replacement rack, be sure the ratio is right. Check it in the store before you accept it......and let them know you will check it when you order it. It should be 2.25 turns lock to lock. If it is more than that(around 2.5-3 turns lock to lock), it's a V6 rack. You don't want that as the feel is totally different...no weight to it at all..takes forever to turn the wheel. All of them are mixing up the V6 and Z28 ratios and don't know it.

My experience a few years ago....got the thing fully installed before I realized it.
