Possible Clogged Cat?

I was driving down the high way around 70mph or so - when I hear a loud pop, and lost power through all the gears. I pull over and look under the car. About an inch or two right before the cat is glowing BRIGHT red. I give it a second, try to start the car up, and all is well. I figure Id get it home and look at it. I drove for about another 10 minutes or so and then lost all power again. This time it wont start back up at all. So I got it towed back to the house and have had it here for a few days. The cat is WELDED on, (Dont ask why, Im not the first owner!) so I wanna make sure that is a good possibility before I get it cut off. The car wont start at all now. Any Ideas?

srure sounds like the cat or a really really lean condition (that will clog a cat anyway)

you can try taking our your 02 sensors and stat it and see if it runs
