popping through exhaust...too rich or too lean?

My plugs just came out after about 2k miles and they look nearly new. not light tan or anything...like new. I'm assuming it is running lean though I haven't been able to scan it since my laptop is down.

BUT, I get pops through the exhaust sometimes when I let off the throttle. Almost like a rich condition as unburnt gases ignite in the exhaust.

Any thoughts?

were your archs on your plugs kinda of a whitish color?
Mine were because I was running in Speed density mode causing me to run a little lean, I never had a popping problem though at that time due to the lean conditions.
Now I get a MAF that works and I down shift to slow down and I get all kinds of popping action...I am guessing the MAF richened up my mixture a little...thats just my take on it, I am not going to know anything until I get my car re auto tapped...

That's one of the downfalls of removing the cat/cats. I used to pop like pocorn untill I installed longtubes. It will still pop, but not nearly as frequently.

I've read its more backpressure related then rich/lean.

I've been told many times that The Popping coming from the Tailpipe was just Air getting into the Pipe before the Muffler.

I get it too when let off the gas; backfiring is usually due to a lean condition although I'm pretty sure she's running rich cause my mpg has fallen considerably.
