Please help!! Car starting without KEY?!?!
Please help!! Car starting without KEY?!?!
I am finishing my buildup of my motor, well today is the day to start it up... So I go to plug in the battery to the terminals, black negative, red positive.
The car tries to turn over when I put the red to the positive terminal! It's like its bypassing the ignition system somehow and just wants to start.
Please help. I have no idea why the car is doing this!
Maybe the starter got hooked up incorrectly? Anyone have a picture of how its supposed to be hooked up?

Re: Please help!! Car starting without KEY?!?!
You couldn't put the black wire on the terminal for the purple wire if I remember correctly. Been a long while since I had the starter out. When the black wire is on the proper terminal, the only way the starter will kick in is when the purple wire is hot on the other terminal. Just in case you could have switched terminals.
Remove the purple and put the black wire on a terminal. If it kicks in still, then move the black wire to the other terminal. Now put the purple on the opposite terminal.

I had this happen once and when I tightened the wire that goes on the terminal marked "S" on the solenoid, it twisted into the battery feed wire causing it to crank when you hooked up the battery.
