Performance Chips... garbage?

I was at work yesterday discussing cars with my boss, and he noticed that i had a filtercharger on there and he asked if i was looking for more hp. I told him my plans about doing headers and exhaust and he was trying to tell me that it would be pointless and if you just want some more hp you can free alot up by getting a chip that adjusts the air/fuel ratio... i know that makes sense and all but would it even make that much of a difference? id rather be able to say yeah ive got headers in my car, than say i have a chip. Plus it would open up the doors for future modifications... so is this garbage?

Oh and I looked at my trans mount today and one of the bolts had backed out a bit and i had thought the car felt a little weird for a week or two. So i tightened it up and now the car feels much better... could that have caused any problems?

I have a Jet Power Control Module Stage 2 in my car and everything seems to run good.

93 models have chips
94-02 models have to be reprogrammed.
IMO not worth it on stock/bolt-on cars
do headers and a gear you will be much happier with sotp improvement

well generally for 94+ models companies like Hypertech and Jet sell a programmer to adjust certain points in your computer to free up additional HP. General feeling is that they are worth next to nothing, and some people have actually run slower with it. If you want a good tune, get yourself a mail order tune from pcmforless or Madwolf. On a bolt on car its typically worth about 10hp.

Once you get into heads/cam/etc then you can start worrying about more tuning.

If you get a 160* thermostat, tuning would definitely help. Tuning on a stock car really isn't too big of a deal, but the more you mod, the more a tune helps. I noticed a tune help after I did my exhaust.
