pcm reflash ???????

i am getting my pcm done and i have just about every bolt and i was wondering if burning out the egr/air is worth it or should i leave it in??? what i mean is if i burn it out of the pcm would my car run better???

A while back, shoebox had a detailed thread about how the EGR is worth keeping. Removing it can actually alter performance. As for the AIR, there is no gain/loss to be had from removing it other than cleaning up under the hood. I keep mine on just so that if I have to pass a visual, its only one more thing iLl have to put back on. (Until it is old enough for classic plates maybe;) )

But how much of a loss is the EGR worth?? A little loss on some cars or a moderate loss on all cars? I took it off since my headers are non-emission LT's. We shall see how it runs.

Oh yeah, I also got mine done by a guy off Ebay, so thats another trial by fire.

Removing EGR or AIR will not increase performance.

EGR does not operate at WOT, so as long as the valve isn't leaking, there is no loss of HP. And removing it has no affect on WOT performance, one way or the other.

One thing to remember when you have these systems "programmed out" of the PCM. You may see a "system not ready" condition when they hook up the emissions computer to your PCM. Some states allow one or two of these, but if you need to do an emissions test where they hook up to the ALDL connector, you might have issues.

Another thing to keep in find, if you have replaced your cam with one that has similar lope separation as that of the LT4 grind the EGR becomes redundant, this is why the LT4 motors do not have an EGR to begin with as the exhaust and intake lopes have enough overlap to pull in some of the spent exhaust gases into the intake charge at cruise speeds.
