Pacesetter Y-pipe Misaligned Nightmare
Hi all I just installed the pacesetters long tube headers with y-pipe and the header install went in perfectly, BUT now lets talk about the y-pipe, it was totally off when i set them up to the headers they were about 1 1/2" minus in width. i would have hade to put loads of tension on the headers and push both the headers towards the center of the car just to barely make them line up. I ended up cutting a 1 1/2" from the passenger side pipe and weld it onto the lenght of the right side pipe so that the distance between the left and right side y-pipe would increase. Now my exhaust tips will not line up correctly it has been a total nightmare!! It took longer to get the y-pipe in than it took to install the headers. I e-mailed REDLINE PERFORMANCE to see if they will send me out a replacement y-pipe. I will let all of you know what happens
It's not their fault. Your new one wont be much if any different. It's your motor mounts. Not really a one-pipe fits all, because everyone's mounts wear differently. I'd take it to an exhaust shop and pay a small price to get it on there, or just wishbone it with a buddy until it'll fit.
cant be my motor mounts worn because my car only has about 8,900 miles I'm telling you this thing was way off not just a little, plus motor mounts dont dictate the width of the engine only height of where engine sits, the distance between the cylinder heads is all the same.

a motor mount has nothing to do with the distance between the heads the only thing a motor mount will affect is low, high, or if the engine is cocked. the headers went in perfect not a problem but when i went to mate up the y-pipe to the header it was about 1 1/2" short from 1 header to the other. I also tried to push both header collecters in towards the center of the car to make up the distance but there was way to much tension on the header for my liking. I think basicaly someone screwed up while fabricating the y-pipe on the jig. I'm still waiting on a answer from REDLINE PERFORMANCE
I had the same problem with the Stainless works Y-pipe I had bought, after butchering to get it to work, I later went with the mufflex, but you dont have that choice with the pacesetters.
If they don't make it good I'd definately either have one fabbed up on car, or look elsewhere.

I had to seperate mine about half the distance at the joint at which the two pieces slide together on the Y pipe. This yielded the correct distance so there was no pressure on the headers. Took a bit of time and work but it all lined up pretty well for the most part. It was binding slightly at that joint though which is now causing a small leak there.

well with all the cutting and welding i did to make it work i actually lost ground clearence because i had to spin the passenger side pipe a little to mate up also now my exhaust tips dont really match each other THAT SUCKS!!. on the other hand REDLINE PERFORMANCE just e-mailed me stating that he will forward the e-mail to the general manager of pacestetter to see if they will give me a new y-pipe
