Overheating
I just did a head gasket, valve seal, valve adjustment, exhaust manifold gasket, intake manifold gasket, oil, coolant, spark plug, change on my 97 Z28. And it’s over heating. It doesn’t overheat when the heater is on, the cooling fans do t kick on until 230 and my PCV hose to connect the metal tube to the intake manifold is cracked in half. Can that hose being cracked cause overheating issues?

Re: Overheating
I'll have to move this. "Site Help and Suggestions" forum is for reporting problems with the site - how to post pictures, posts not showing up, etc. Not for tech discussions, and not likely to get any help.
So.... this goes to "LT! Based Engine Tech". |
Re: Overheating
If the hose that connects the metal pipe from the PCV valve to the vacuum port under the throttle body has a crack in it, it is a vacuum leak. Needs to be fixed. Wouldn't cause an overheating problem, but it can't be left unrepaired.
From Shoebox: http://shbox.com/1/pcv_pipe.jpg The stock PCM program turns the fans on low speed at 226-degF, and switches them to high speed at 235-degF. When the fans kick on, do they lower the coolant temperature closer to 210-degF, which is the center point of the gauge? Or does the coolant temperature continue to rise above 235-degF? Does this happen at idle, cruising at high MPH on the highway, or all the time? Have you correctly refilled and bled the air out of the cooling system? 4th Gen LT1 F-body Tech Articles What temperature thermostat are you running? Is it the correct 'stat specifically for the LT1 engine? Have you scanned the PCM for codes? |
Re: Overheating
I’ll be getting that hose fixed today. As far as the cooling fans go i haven’t tried driving without the heater on cause it’s cold outside but I’ll have to sacrifice comfort for a minute to find out. The thermostat is stick unless the previous owner put a different one in and i have scanned for codes i have misfires but i also have to adjust the valves a little more and see if that solves the misfire

We've covered most of what is in this writeup, but here's the link anyway:
