Overheating....

hey guys

the past couple of days ive been driving my car... ive noticed that its running rather warm and if it idles for an extended period of time it gets very hot and almost reaches 260.... but once i drive it and its moving the tmep goes down... i dont think the fan kicks on either..... is there any way to test the fan to see if they are getting power or is there a way i can turn em on to see if they are working properly.... any ideas guys?

thanks

Dan

Re: Overheating....

mine does that. i had to pull over the other day. so, i replaced the coolant, temp sensor on the water pump, thermostat, water pump and radiator. all of that did nothing. so, during my header install last week i broke the temp sensor on the block and replaced with new one. it seems now it doesn't want to overheat but i haven't really ran it a long ways yet. still breaking in the headers. we'll see.

Re: Overheating....

i did notice a tiny tiny spot of coolant on my drive way i started her up and nothing so i drove it around the block a few times came back and sure enuf i saw it drip but i couldnt figure out where it was comeing from water pump maybe? no ideabut it wasnt bad enuf to do anything to the coolant level... my coolant is filled very well... but i still dont think the fans kick on...... thank god for that... so whats the manual fan mod im hearing about is it worth it.... how would i know when to turn em on/off.... keep the input coming thanks....

Re: Overheating....

That drop is most likely the weep hole on the waterpump mines doing the same exact thing. I found a fuse which was blown in my fuse box under the hood for the fans and now they kick on when the AC is on but still dont when the engine reaches 220 so I plan to replace the temp sensor when I do the waterpump this weekend.

Re: Overheating....

for the manuall fan mod i just got a 2 way switch, and when i flip it up it turns on both fans and when i flip it down turn on only one, i hooked the switch under my dash and it went down to the fuse box , it directly connects to the cooling fan fuse blocks. there is a website that shows how to do it, so if i find it ill post it. but when the temperature gets near 160 just flip them on, its that easy, just dont forget, it may not be right but i just leave one fan on the whole time and that it easy till it warms up, but like i said be4 it shouldnt be a perminant fix.

Re: Overheating....

as someone said the leak is coming from the bottom of your waterpump. there is a weephole on it to arn you the pump is going out and thats why its leaking

Re: Overheating....

I had a similar problem with the overheating.

MY FIX: Pulled the battery to check the overflow and the tube that goes from the top of the radaitor into it had a tiny hole.

As far as the ease of replacing the wp, it can be difficuld if it is the first time for you. I made a few special open ended wrenches to reach some of the difficult bolts. I ground the sides down with my dremel so I could turn them farther and reach better. Set aside about 6 hours for your first time
