Its the distributor that is very water sensitive. It is mounted underneath the water pump, and near the bottom of the car. So if you car ever busts a hose, runs through a big puddle, you will be needing to replace this optispark. Dont think it is eas either, water pump, fans, balancer all must come off. Its not fun...

Re: Optispark...wtf is it!!!!

I personally didn't really find it to be that bad of a job. It took me like 3 hours, taking my sweet time, but still, besides scraping off the old gasket, lining up the opti was the hardest part for me, everything else was pretty straight forward.

I think the hardest part of the job is shelling out the cash for the opti.

Re: Optispark...wtf is it!!!!

It's the distributor. It's probably in the worst location possible. It's also the scapegoat for every ignition problem. A lot of people will stay away from it. I did the first time I had my Formula, until I gained enough confidence to do it. took me a total of 3 hours to replace. The worst part in my opinion would be gasket removal and and bleeding the cooling system.

Are you having ignition problems? Or just wondering what it is?

Thats about right sometimes. My stocker only last 38k, but my current unit is going strong with 60k on it.

You have altezza tail lights, a flowmaster muffler, and don't know what the opti is... You my friend, are in need of a serious intervention.
