Opti?

My car acts up after about an hour of driving intermittantly
it will stall and make it hard to start back up
so here is what is happening

- Too much fuel., i can see black comin out of the exhaust BUT not all the time only when this problem starts happening..

- Not enough spark or seems like it cuz when i come to restarting the car when it stalls it like seems to have no spark

- Once i do get her started if i keep the revs above 1500-2000 k it wont stall @ lights

any suggestions?

Re: Opti?

Sounds like an electronic device breaking down after it gets hot. Test a few components with a blow dryer while the car is completely cold. Start it up first for a second or 2 to be sure it's running ok. Then shut it down. Heat up one thing at a time with the blow dryer to the point that it's just too hot to touch. Start with the ICM. Test start the car but don't let the engine get too hot if that's not it. Then heat the coil and try it again. The opti only has optical encoders in it so it's unlikely that is the problem. However, bad connections can get worse with heat expansion.

If none of that helps, try checking each cylinder's ex manifold temperature with an infrared thermometer while the problem is occuring. Also be sure to check under the hood when it's dark to see if you have a light show.

good luck
Dave

Re: Opti?

When was the last time your opti was changed? Mine was doing that when I first got it. It would run awesome for about an hour, and then just crap out. It would run, shut off and not start. However, it was puzzling because the car would sit overnight and run like nobody's business. I know its a cliche to say, but I think this one is the opti.
