ok so its not my oil pres sensor...
 

my oil pres gauge is stuck at past 80 just sitting there...

I unplugged it the cable, and without plugging in the new sensor in the place of the old one, i just plugged the cable into teh new one... when i just put the car 'on' the gauge didnt move at all... it should have gone to 0 if it was the oil pres sensor...

what else can it be??? the gauge has gone bad maybe?

if i get one of those aftermarket ones, how do i wire it? (through the sensor or what?)

This is hard to read. Are you saying that you plugged the new sensor in w/o screwing it into the block? The outside of the sensor could be the ground for the sensor. Not sure though. Screw it in or ground it and see what happens.

it might be, i'll ground it tommorow and see if it does anything...

i dont want to screw the new one in, because i cant get a good grip on the other one, and looks like it'll take me a lil to take the old one out, so thats why i'm not plugging the new one in

Check the wire to the sender connector. If it is grounded out it will peg the gauge; you may have burned the wire somehow.

Sorry, that's exactly backwards. If the wire is disconnected or open, it will peg the gauge. I know that is not the way gauges in older cars worked, but it is the way these do.


Seal, if you don't ground the body of the sensor, it's not going to read. If you just plugged in the new sensor while holding it in your hand, well, that is not going to do it. If you want to prove the wire is not broken, just ground the wire and turn on the key-the gauge should read zero.

BTW, most times you will need an oil pressure sensor socket to remove it. The sensor has rounded edges to where a normal 12 point deep socket won't work. If you have a deep 6 point, it might work.
