Sup mofos....:D Anyway, question, how does the oil in our cars get cool? Just from the water cooling? I know the early F-body's had oil coolers but what about ours? Another thing. At what temp does oil begin to break down? I know I read it somewhere in here but I can't seem to find it. Sorry one more. For you guys with gauges, if your water temp is around 210, what would your oil temp be at???

Typically oil is hotter than water. Non synthetic oils begin to break down over 250 deg. F which is why coolant temp. idiot lights are programed to come on at 245 Deg. F. I have a KC4 water to oil cooler and oil temp runs a little over coolant, usually about 190 Deg. F. and will climb to 225 in traffic. I don't know what temp the oil would have been without the cooler. Obviously you have more leeway with a synthetic. Remember the only thing cooling pistons is oil. Lots of time with diesels, there is actually a mechanism to spray a stream of oil on the bottom of each piston to cool it. I think Ford power stroke added an air to oil cooler in it's late 1990 models to prevent problems which were showing up while still under warranty due to excessive oil heat.
