Oil pressure sensor angle fitting
Oil pressure sensor angle fitting
Well im putting a new oil sensor on my new engine(p/n :10201491) just to be sure that i will get a good reading and i was also looking to put new angle fittings with it.
My questions:Its seems if i look at the shoebox sites pictures that there is 2 angle fittings screwed together.Do i need to order 2 times the sames p/n : 10137636 to make it work?

Remove EGR valve if you need room. Remove sensor, remove outer fitting, remove remaining fitting. Apply thread sealant and reinstall in reverse.
OK i suck at mechanical stuff. any idea what size the bolts are on EGR and where they are at? also what size bolt is the fitting? i'm afraid if i remove EGR i won't be able to get it back on there since i'm basically working one handed down there (need other hand for balance, lol) Maybe i should just let the shop deal with it tomorrow. on a good note i think it is what's causing the leak since i revved the motor with a paper towel back there and i got some oil on it. not as much as i was expecting though since it was semi dry by the time i pulled the towel out a minute or so later. it was wet around one spot on the intake manifold but its also the spot right by where the OPSU fittings are so i can't tell if its leaking out through the gasket or if its leaking at the fitting. since the gasket was replaced only 2 years ago and feels hard, i'm guessing its the fitting.

Go buy a bottle of this and a black light.

It's the EASIEST way to determine where your leak is coming from.

EGR nuts are 1/2". Use an oil pressure sensor socket on the sensor. I don't know the size of the fittings, but should be easy to figure out or use an adjustable wrench. Except for the access restriction, the work is pretty elementary.

Cue Sad Violin:
OK so here's the deal... working on the same sensor above, thanks shbox!!! (I Love You, Man! But in a totally hetero way...)
I just put the motor back in my car, and I very carefully stripped and cleaned and reassembled both angle fittings and oil sensor as above in the photo, but on my engine stand off the vehicle!
I must have broken the sensor off while putting the motor back in. It's not leaking oil, but no reading on the gage and the sensor piece is completely broken off the metal base. New sensor and nifty sensor socket on the workbench already.
Tricky part: When I reassembled it on the engine stand, I apparently got the angle just slightly off (up about 30 degrees from the picture above) and the result is that the remaining base of the sensor is now shrouded by the EGR valve, and I can't get a socket (or any other tool, including vise grips or crescent wrench or any wrench for that matter) on it. So I can't remove the old sensor.
Also, it seems that the sensor is blocking me from removing the EGR valve as well, so I can't remove it to get the sensor off. All because I assembled it on the engine stand with no idea how secluded it was inside the engine compartment. On the stand, I was able to reassemble it with a wrench so I didn't need to get a socket around it.
So now what? I'm thinking I can get a cheap socket (it's 1-1/16" fwiw) and grind off 1/3 of it, so it will go over the remaining piece of the broken sensor, yet clear the EGR valve? Then once I have it apart I can reassemble it all properly with the new fittings.
Any other ideas, crazy or otherwise, are greatly welcomed... it's not leaking oil, but driving without an oil pressure gage stresses me out...
I was also thinking that when I reassemble it, I might add a 3" extension to the oil sensor itself, so it's easier to reach. it's regular 1/8" pipe thread...

Re: Oil pressure sensor angle fitting
Ohhhhh yeah I bet I can!!! Get a wrench on that second angle fitting! I tried to just turn it with my hand, and even tried tapping it with a wrench to turn it down, but it's really snug... may have luck getting a wrench on it tho! Will report back tomorrow, got a hot date tonight!!!
Re: Oil pressure sensor angle fitting
Have I mentioned lately how Hawt I am for shoebox???
So here's what I ended up doing... as shoebox said, you can get a 3/4" wrench on the angle fitting, but not much... if you look at the photo, you can see that you can't get the closed end over it completely when the sensor is in it, and depending on the angle it's currently turned to, you may or may not get the open end of the wrench over it.
I ended up putting a 'mover's blanket' over the entire engine compartment and laying on top of the engine, so I could get both arms behind the valve covers. On on the wrench, the other guiding it.
Once I got the sensor angled properly, it was all easy breezy with the special socket for the sensor. However, I want to x10 what was said above about it being fragile! This ain't a Thai Hooker, you gotta go easy on it!
But we's all oil pressure sendin to my gage now. Amen.

Re: Oil pressure sensor angle fitting
That's what some people call "the superman" (laying stretched out on top of the engine to reach the back [and using a blanket to make it more comfy]). That's what you have to do sometimes.
