Oil pressure problem

Ok so I noticed the other day that when i first start my car up in the morning my oil pressure acts normal. but once the motor gets to operating temp it drops. at idel the oil pressure sits at about 4 psi and I'll get on the freeway and be cruising at 3,000 rpm and it only brings it to 40 psi. now I looked it up in my books and LT1's dont require much oil pressure to operate, but I know it hasn't always been this way. just wondering if it's an early stage of a future problem? Any idea's on what i should try? Maybe a different oil? I just use the 5W30 which is standard for this motor. but It is a 383 stroker....

Re: Oil pressure problem

4 psi seems very low. Mine usually is around 15 at idle hot. 45-50 is max I ever see. I would do an oil and filter change and see if that helps. If not, you might have something wrong. 5w30 should be fine. I run a thicker oil to keep the pressure up a little more. I chose Mobil 1 15w50. It has the thickness of a 10w40 conventional oil. I only run my car when its warm so I don't need the thin oil for cold temps. I hope this helps.

Re: Oil pressure problem

Look up the KENDALL web site and find a dealer near you.Royal Purple and Kendall are not even close.RP is a good oil but won't take the same abuse as Kendall.
