Oil Pick-Up Very Loose In Pump + Checking Clearcne To Pan??

I am gettin very close to button up this motor im working on. Its prety exciting.. Anyway. I am installing the oil pickup. and its very loose in the pump.. actually, it was not on the pump when I took the pan off in the start of the build.. So, my question is has anyone ever used some kind of epoxy or somehting there?. or maybe a bolt or somehting?.. what are my option.. Maybe a new one?.. I dont want to go that way, but if I have to I have to. I do have the tool to install it but its installed up to the bump and I can pull it out by hand..

Also, My book tells me to measure oil can clearence? you kidding me?..im using a stock pan.. so does someone have a picture of a measurment that will tell me where it needs to be.. Thanks

With the pick up that loose it will suck air. I'd invest in a new one. To check clerance, you put some clay about 3/4" tall on the pick up and put the pan on. No gasket, just push it down. Pull the pan back off and you can see how close the pick up is to the bottom of the pan. Add about 1/8" for the gasket.

Pickup part number will vary depending on what pump you have. There are some stock p/ns on my Tech Page. Your pickup should be new.

3/8"-1/2" from the bottom of the pan seems to be the norm.

M155 HV is what the pump says. is that stock?.. or is that a Melling High Volume?

looks like maybe:
Mfg. Part No. Price (MSRP)
38-OIL PICK-UP
5.7L 1995 - 1997 12550042 $17.84

Don't use that pump with a stock pan. That is a 3/4" High Volume pump. Not needed in most cases. Can cause problems with sucking stock pan dry and shorten oil pump drive life. It also has a weak casting.
12550042 is the p/n for a stock 3/4" pickup.

A Melling 10554 would be a better choice. There have been countless threads about pumps.
