Starting engine without Transmission

Hey guys,

As I am attempting to chase my on-going engine oil leak issues I am wanting to start my car without the transmission attached. I have the tranny (manual) off the car. I left the starter and the flywheel on the car. I have power to the ignition inside the car. I tried pushing in my clutch pedal and it was really stiff. I pushed the slave cylinder back in and the same problem, along with no start.

I looked under the dash where the clutch pedal is I noticed two wires going to a white “plunger” type sensor or unit on the clutch pedal. I removed that connector and crossed a wire from each side of the connector. Again with no start!!

Is it possible that the four sensors that run to the tranny, which obviously aren’t hooked up is causing this no start?

Here is a picture of the connector I crossed. Maybe it’s not the right one??

Thanks for the help!

What color are the wires? Should be brown and yellow - looks like one is pink. There is also a clutch switch to release the cruise control. That has a pink wire and a brown/white wire. Appears you may have the wrong one.

Ok! Yes it’s a reddish and blackish wire. I will search for the brown and yellow one. Should it be close to the clutch pedal?

Thanks so much

don't push in clutch pedal without clutch/tranny installed

you need to bypass the neutral safety switch

Re: Starting engine without Transmission

It's a wide, flat switch to the left side of the clutch pedal. See part #19 in the attached pedal switch diagram.

Starter diagram shows wire colors for "Clutch Start Switch" as yellow and brown, attached.
