OBD1 w/OBD2 Plug
I am curious on how exactly a person can check their engine light codes on a car that has an OBD1 computer but a OBD2 diagnostic plug port. The regular OBD2 computer diagnostic system won't work and I believe the OBD1 "paperclip" checking method won't work either. I did a search but couldn't really find exactly what I need to do...
PS: Isn't 95 the only year with this problem?? |
Re: OBD1 w/OBD2 Plug
I bought a interface plug that is OBD 2 in style but wired for OBD1 , it was made by AKM electronics.

Re: OBD1 w/OBD2 Plug
You need an OBD-I scanner. If you get an AutoXray, they sell an optional 16-pin connector so it works with your 95. If you get some other brand, Shoebox has a diagram on his Tech Pages showing the interface that will allow it to work. The ScanMaster doesn't even have a connector, and can easilly be wired to a 95. TTS DataMaster or FreeScan will run on your laptop, with the AKM cable mentioned above.
The last year you could use the "short the pins" method was 1993. |
Re: OBD1 w/OBD2 Plug
Well I work up at autozone and finally someone came in the a 95 f-body and I told them off the bat that we couldn't check it but then he asked exactly how he could have it checked. I do have a scanmaster in my car but I am not about to take it outta my car and install it in his just to check his codes! :D
Thanks for the help. I learn something knew from you guys everyday! |
