fix the heads and leave it at that, you want a built bottom end, youll more then likey find one in the forsale section already built for half the cost of buliding one up. a 100 dollar port job most likely isnt worth it, he probably wont do anything. doubt youd see much from a minor port job if you got a blower on there anyway. save up for some loyd elliot heads that are pretty inexpensive, and buy a forged bottom end that already built. save your money for the 12 bolt and mcleod, youll need them.

I'm not up for that kind of risk (shortblock in for sale section) ...but I see your point. My mechanic is very skilled and I think he was kid of offering the $100 ~ $150 port job as a favor. He was simply saying that's how much extra it would be since the heads will already be off of the car anyway. He said if I wanted to add a 3 angle valve job he'd have to go to a machine shop for that part. He cautioned however, that the three angle valve job may not allow the valves to seat as reliably if the job isn't done just about perfectly. I have heard that stock ported heads are damn near as good as aftermarket heads if the porter halfway knows what he's doing. How much better would Lloyd Elliot heads be (in general) .....and how much more? (stages?)
