New Tstat?

Well, I have a 96TA that has been having overheating problems for about a year now. I'll just give the readers digest version of what all has been done/changed.
Changed WP
New Tstat
New radiator hose
...fast forward a year...
New radiator hose
New Tstat
New Water pump
New Radiator

Those last 4 things were all last sunday. The car still overheats. My dad finally decided to take out the Tstat, and he said it was finally running cool! We've just been buying hightemp tstats from autozone. So I was wondering if i should even bother trying a low temp tstat or just leave it as is? If so any recomendations? Also note that my heater core is out.

you could try a new tstat. I know last time I got one from Autozone they gave me a stander SBC tstat, which isn't the right one...and my car overheated too. I run a 180 and have no problems with overheating.

When the thermo is out the antifreeze just keeps cycling, so it is natural that your car will stay cooler. That might not be your problem though. Good luck with it.

I see two faults. You said you were buying thermostats from AZ and also that you were buying high temp themostats. AZ will sell you the wrong thermostat almost every time. Their catalog says it is the same as an SBC thermostat and it is not. You also should have been getting a lower temp thermostat (like a 160°). AZ may have one, but you have to ask specifically for the Hypertech #1008.

Thanks for the help. I know for sure that the last thermostat was the right one. I actually tried getting a lower temp one the last time, but they didn't have any in stock. I guess I will show around for one though. It can't hurt trying it, and they are cheap enough, unlike replacing WPs and radiators. =/
Thx again.
