New engine break-in
New engine break-in
Just to get a headstart, when (and if) I get this engine swap finished and get it running, are there any issues that I should expect as the new bearings and seals seat? Any tuning problems that I might encounter? I talked to a local wrench who said that the PCM will have to "learn" the new engine. Any truth to this claim? Thanks in advance guys.
Re: New engine break-in
Was it a stock rebuild or modified? More specifics needed. Usually, on a rebuilt engine, the critical issue is making sure the rings seat. If they don't the motor is basically ruined
Re: New engine break-in
It's a stock swap. No engine mods whatsoever. I know I can't push it until everything seats and seals. I just didn't know if there were any problems anyone ran into with a stock replacement.
Re: New engine break-in
when i rebuilt mine i just let it run for 1/2 hour. changed the oil and looked very closely for metal shavings. then i ran it for 100 miles and looked agian. now i am going to do the 1000 mile run and change the oil. so far so good. if only i can get rid of this damn hesitation after it warms up.
Re: New engine break-in
fire it up hold the rpms at 3k for 15 mins to make sure the cam and lifters get broke in and assembly lube flows out. very the rpms from 2k-5k for 15 mins shut off let cool for a half hour check for leaks in oil gaskets and coolant hoses. take for a 100 mile drive change the oil and filter to get rid of the assembly lube then change again at 1k and 3 k after that resume regular oil changes and whatever you do use dino oil no synthetic of any kind for atleast 3k miles
