Need to test radiator...... Help plz!

I've been talking to some of the good mechanics in my area, and they think my overheating problems are caused by a bad radiator. I would like to test the radiator with it in the car before I fork out the money for a new one.

Most of them suggested getting a laser temperature detector, and getting a temp on the top hose and the bottom hose. I have two questions about this. 1) it's gonna be kinda hard for me to borrow one of these, are there any alternatives? 2) if I do get to borrow a gun, what exactly am I looking for as far as temperature diference?

Thanks
John

Cant answer either of those ,sorry.I will ask this, did you try flushing it?If it is questionable,I would just get it recored or a new one.I know money is always an issue. But look at it as preventive maintainence.

I have flushed it, refilled it, bled it a few times etc. I really don't want to buy a new radiator, so I want to be damn sure that's the problem. I'm so broke! haha
