Non-vented = no advantages.

All the advantages are with the vented.

^ correct...

The non-vented comes stock on 94's, and I think maybe a few 95's. It tends to wear out sooner because it more easily traps moisture and I believe it also gets hotter.

The vented opti can keep moisture out easier and remains cooler because of the vented air...

To switch to vented, you'll have to tap a line into your air intake to use as the vaccum for the optis vent line though...

If you want to convert to vented, there are a number of things you have to do/change.

I did not change from non to vented at the time of my opti problems because it would have cost me extra money and a lot of time. If the motor is out I would say go for it.

You can stick with a non-vented and not have any problems. Overall they seem to be more problematic, but it is not a guarantee. I am still running the original stock non-vented opti on my 94, with 80k miles... Absolutely no problems...

I'm not entirely sure about that. I don't see why there would be a problem though... someone else will have to chime in on that one...

If I'm not mistaken, the LT4 timing set requires the use of the vented opti system.

Can't use it. That is one of the disadvantages of the non-vented opti. You must us a stock type cam gear that has the splines that will drive the non-vented opti.

I am still running the nonvented opti with my setup. There are advantages to changing over to the vented style plus vented optis are cheaper, but I just haven't ever gotten around to doing it. Its not going to hurt anything if you want to continue to run the nonvented opti.
