depending on your states emission laws you can just knock all the junk out from inside of it (cover your nose and mouth with a rag and keep it as far away from your face as possible when doing so) and the slip it right back on....

New GM Cat $600
Aftermarket Cat $ 400
Gutted Cat $0
Working The System... Priceless

yeah, but i don't like the smell of the exhaust with a non-functional cat. it's already starting to smell like a 69 big block and i hate that.

I know you were trying to go with the 'priceless' thing, but on a serious note, I've been looking at the Magnaflow cats from Summit - bolt-in ready - for under $200 per side.

looks like the magnaflows might be a good product? i don't want anything poorly made that will need to be replaced in a year.

Find somebody that's parting out a low-mileage car. Used cats for LT1 vettes run around $50-75, so I'd expect it to be no more than that for an F-body.

I was showing an example. Be sure the inlet and outlet sizes work for your setup.

I guess what I was quoting was the price for both, being a 97 dual cat owner (even though I don't have cats anymore)
which is roughly 400 total, my bad
