need to know... Coil and the module.

What is the little module thing that attaches to the same bracket as the coil? What does it do, how can you tell when it is bad?

It is called a Ignition Module...

what does it do? How do you know when you have a bad one, it takes all the heat off the cylinder head...

Do you have multiple personalities?

It is the Ignition Control Module (ICM). It take pulses from the pcm and then signals the coil to fire. Sometimes it can cause a miss when it's electronics are failing with heat. Most times, they just fail. Fail = no spark.

I am have detonating, like the motor is running lean bigtime...

I cant figure out what it is?? Have 30 accel injectors which are new, adj fuel pressure regulator set at 46 with hose off. Cat is gutted (which made no difference) Had 4 pcm's from Bryan. On the 1-2 shift and then give it a load it pings like mad. It is a 383 and has -12cc pistons, so I know the CR is like 10.8:1 or so.

Also tried a different coil....

made no difference and has new tr55 NGK plugs, wires are new, has a 160 thermostat. I think it is just too lean.
