Need Help. My fans don't come on.

I noticed yesterday that whenever i am sitting in traffic that the car warms up to about 230. It doesn't run hot but gets close. Well i come home and pop my hood and see if the fans come on and sure enough they don't. So i get in the car and turn the A/C on and the fans come on and the car cools like normal. Turn off the ac and they quit. I know the fans are good. I checked all the realays and th fuses too. Is there a coolant temp sensor somewhere that can be bad? If so where is it and how can i replace it.

Thanks
Shawn

engine temp for fans

Shawn,

Unfortunately our stock programming doesn't turn the first fan on until 224 deg F...the second one comes on at 234 deg F...that's way too hot for most of us to be comfortable. There are several options.

Option 1: Leave your AC or defroster on. Like you noticed, that will turn the fans on.

Option 2: Install a manual override switch. You can do a search on this and figure out the wiring yourself or purchase a switch kit from a company such as SLP.

Option 3: Reprogram your computer with a Hypertech controller, or LT1edit or TunerCat...or something of that nature.

Good luck with your project.

well mine is running hotter than 234 it goes to the last mark onthe guage before the red. It never boils over or anything but it is definately to hot. I already have on of those SLP switches in the mail. I am also getting PCFFOR LESS soon and will have them program it for a little cooler temps. I am just wondering if one of my sensors are bad?

Thanks

Here is some info on testing the sensor if you want. It is much easier to observe it with a scan tool, though.

Mine wouldn't come on until it was nearly overheated. I had them programmed to come on at 180, but for some reason they quit doing it. I didn't do any testing or anything like that. I just put on the slp manual fan switch and it comes on now at 180 no questions asked...manually Now when I go to work I don't have to worry about it overheating...what a good feeling it is too

cooling fans

Shawn,

It sounds like your fans are working as intended. The needle on the coolant gage should touch the line just before the red area. That's around 235 deg.F.
