Need help before ordering headers!
Need help before ordering headers!
ok, ive finally decided on getting mac mid length headers! but first have alot of questions! does mac only make their mid lenghts? i just dont want to order the wrong thing, because on the site, it doesnt specify what they are
http://www.neweraperformanceparts.com/default.asp?S=503&A=E&PKV=macheaderslt1|0
it says those come with an off road y pipe...so does that mean it conects straight to my cat back, and replaces the cat?
also, is there any welding involved with the install of these headers? i need some good plugs and wires too! any suggestions, where to get them, and even part numbers would be great. i also plan on geting a LT4 km at the same time.

Re: Need help before ordering headers!
I use over head valve cover wires from thunder racing. You have to cut them yourself with the tools they provide in the kit though. THe off road ypipe connects to the headers... THe ypipe is the piece that goes inbetween your headers and your cat back.. They should give u a slip fit with the Ypipe... if not u can pick up a steel band at auto zone for sealing exhausts.
No welding needed.
I think mac makes shorties too but im not sure.. NEver heard of a long tube mac..
I picked up 2mph in the 1/4 with long tubes and high flow cats vs SLP shorties with stock ypipe/cats.
2mph is roughly 20 horses.

Re: Need help before ordering headers!
Ok some more imformation and some more questions!
I emailed neweraperformanceparts.com and asked if the macs they have for 399.99 are shortys or mids, they said they are the mids, and that there is welding involved, that the y pipe conects to the cat, and does not replace the cat, and that is where the welding comes in. i would prefer not to have a cat which is where i assumed the "off road y pipe" came in to play?... but anyways, what else am i needing other than headers, y pipe, gaskets, and bolts? They all come with the kit! Im going ahead and replacing the plugs and wires because they are the originals with 70 k on them. im planning on at the same time getting a lt4 knock module, and i heard some where that you might as well replace the motor mounts while your under there as well. Is that true? and if so where is a good place to find poly motor mounts? I'm still a little confused with the whole plug and wire thing. Are the wires that i need a universal set? and do i need straight plugs, 45 degree, or 90 degree plugs? Any suggestions on brands? Im guessing wire separotors would be suggested as well.
sorry for all the questions, im just trying to do it right, and get everything correct the first time! thanks in advance!

Re: Need help before ordering headers!
you'll be able to find lt1 specific plugs and wires at jegs or summit
you also might want to pick up some felpro gaskets, not sure of the quality of the ones that mac gives you
i'll be picking some up for my rksport middies just to be safe

Re: Need help before ordering headers!
To answer your questions. Yes, the MAC's that you see in that web address are the correct ones.
There is NO welding involved if you make a cat or a bullet muffler like I describe in some of my posts. Search on my name, and the key words (cat or bullet in the title)
I kept the stock wires in the stock location and they work GREAT. I did change plugs to NGK TR55's
The exhaust setup will be:
Headers=>Y-pipe=>cat or bullet muffler=>catback
You'll love the MACs. Good choice.
