Narrow Body or Not
 

I purchased these regular (not narrow body) rockers from summit link
thinking I could just trim the valve covers instead of paying the extra $100 for the narrow body ones. The bottom of the body of the rocker hits the nut on the stud (stock 3/8) before it comes close to coming into contact with the pushrod. Therefore, I cannot tighten them down. Should I just break down and get the narrow bodies? Or is there another solution?

Narrow body refers to the width. Normal SBC rockers work fine on LT1s, you have a problem elsewhere. Take a picture of your problem, I'm not quite sure what your talking about?

Thought: Are you using guideplates? If not, you need to be.

I called Summit and they said that regular sbc rockers will NOT work and that you have to buy narrow body ones.

The bottom of the rocker is hitting the nut on the stud and will not allow the fulcrum to go down on the stud. I cannot take a pic. I'm out of town.

BTW, I do have guide plates.

I had the same problem with mine. I bought some APR 3/8" studs and they cleared. The APR stud has a lower profile nut.

Did you use the narrow body ones or the regular sbc? What kind? PN?

Narrow body rocker arms do not have anything to do with this problem. The "not fit" answer comes from the supports in the valve cover hitting "wide body" rocker arms. Most people just cut them out and they work fine. I am using Harland Sharp 1.65 RR's for a 3/8" stud. They would be considered "narrow bodies" if you compare them to the 7/16" RR's they make. They clear my stock covers no problem.

Anyway, I changed to APR studs and added Comp Cams lash caps (+0.080) to the valves to correct my geometry. This fixed the problem for me. You need to get these studs without question. Afterwards, you may need to get longer pushrods and/or lash caps to get the RR's off the stud nut more if they are still rubbing. Without adding guidplates they stock studs would most likely clear the RR's.
