Is my combo maxed out?
Is my combo maxed out?
I have been wondering about this the last few days. I’m quite happy with how my mods have turned out on my car and it’s making the power while still maintaining excellent mileage and drivability. For those of you not familiar with my setup my mods are listed in the sig. done 2 years ago now and the car dynos 305hp/320ft./lbs torque at the wheels (it dynoed 300hp/318ft./lbs. at the wheels last year)
I went to the track a week and a half ago for the first time this year. It was a last minute thing so I didn’t have time to get the car ready like when I usually go. I went home, hopped into the car and went.
My previous best at my home dragstrip (Cayuga) was a 13.54@103.5mph. This is on my BFG DR’s (255/50/16) with the frt. sway bar and all brackets removed, interior trim and spare tire stuff removed in the back (only metal showing in the rear), fuel tank level between ¼ and half full and with my ram air setup done for my K&N CAI. I run the 17” SS wheels with S-02 tires up frt. (don’t have skinnies). The car with this setup will run around mid 13.5-13.6’s with trap speeds around high 102 to 103+ (highest trap speed is 103.74mph)
So I went that evening and knowing that the car with my B/stones (which are 7 years old now and kinda old) will usually run 13.9-14.00’s but still trapping 102-103 + I expected it to run the same times but that wasn’t the case. I was ripping off et’s in the 13.7 range with a best of 13.621@103.19mph, highest mph was 103.24 on a 13.806et. I was picking up 2 tenth’s over what I would usually run with street tires and keep in mind that I didn’t pull any weight out of the car at all and it had a fairly full tank of gas in. I know without a doubt that if I did get the prep work done on the car that day and running the DR’s I could’ve gotten a 13.2-13.3 out of the car.
So with that said this is what I would like an opinion on: Is there anything else I can do with my current setup that would get me more hp? I can’t think of anything that I can do bolt-on wise without getting into the engine (like a cam and head swap), for me that’s a tricky area to get into since I’ve gotten a pretty good gain from what I’ve done already. I also feel that the mph could be higher, there were guys there with LS1’s running similar et’s but they’re trapping 106-107mph. While I know I won’t get those trap speeds with my setup I think trapping 104-105 is possible while keeping the et the same or lower.
What do you guys think? Give me some ideas please.
Note: I have the HPP3 but don’t use the engine program now, I only use it for the fans and rev limiter and as my scanner when the scan cartridge is plugged in.

I would say that you are pretty much maxed out with the bolt-on stuff. I say take the next step up, and get a heads/cam package. If you choose the right components, neither driveability nor durability will suffer too much. Good luck.
