My bolt on 96 camaro build.

Hi guys. Im new too this forum. I really appreciate it if u guys help me wit my 96 LT1 build. Ok. My first thing is i wana put headers. Im thinkin longtube pasecetters cermic coated of course. So my questions is are these headers the best bet for me & how much hp increase will this be ? & next check i also wana do a full catback exhaust wit a y-pipe true dual. Is this a great first step? Pls answer back ! Thanx & most appreciative.

Don't forget the cai, if you don't already have one.

Check this out, looks decent.

Pacesetters are cheap, mild steel. They'll rust. Also, the more expensive stainless steel LT headers tend to flow a bit better and are sometimes easier to install. If you can afford it, I highly recommend them.

You can't have true duals and a Y pipe. That's contradictory. True duals would use an X pipe, or possibly an H pipe, or maybe none of the above - but definitely not a Y pipe.

Ceramic coating (which he indicated he would include) should prevent or at least minimize rusting of mild steel, while offering additional benefits like reduced underhood temps, improved scavenging/HP, reduced cyclic heat stress cracking, compared to uncoated mild or stainless steel. I know that some of the coatings don't seem to hold up well in areas that use heavy amounts of salt in snow/ice conditions. But it appears he is from CA based on the IP address.

Of course if he is in CA, that raises a whole new issue regarding the legality of long tube headers.

Underdrive pulley.

Re: My bolt on 96 camaro build.

Here's some dyno tests of common LT1 mods:

WS6.COM LT1 Trans Am

For example, the throttle body coolant bypass (free mod) is worth 6 peak HP. An underdrive pulley gains 0.7 peak HP, and can cause charging problems on automatics with their low idle speed. Do you have a manual or auto trans?

You still need to clarify your exhaust plans. If you use an X-pipe, you can't use a "full catback exhaust". A "catback" is typically a single pipe, to a cross-flow muffler, with dual outlets. But you indicate you want true duals.

You need to add a "Signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. It gets appended to all your posts, so people have the info to help you.
