Muffler Selection

I already have 3" exhaust from the Y on back...so im not looking for a complete cat-back set up. Im looking for a good muffler, with two outlets, one that is not to loud at idle, but with a nice deep throty sound when stepped on, Any suggestions? LT1

Hooker

no

Spintech

no

Dynomax

Edelbrock

......

Your best bet is to find some sound clips and decide what you think sounds good.

I like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra better the the London Symphony Orchestra, especially when it comes to Mahler, Copeland, Holst, Bruckner and Stravinsky. All a matter of personal taste right. :)

We've done a lot of dyno's on many different combo's and our favorite is the Hooker. My personal car is a 91 Z28 running a mild 350. Was using the mufflex 3.5" exhaust using the spintech. Swapped over to a Hooker muffler and I saw a 10rwhp gain with no other changes or tuning. IMO, Spintech and Flowmaster are the two choices not to buy for performance.

Well there's this one little place here local..... oh, you mean mufflers? ;)

Check with the supporting sponsors, Thunder Racing, TByrne, etc..

David,
Have you guys also tested the Borla xr1 and Edelbrock victor mufflers?

David, I would also like to know if you've tested the Borla XR1 and the Flowmaster one chamber race muffler ?

What's up, Dave? Don't forget to call me when y'all dyno Terry's Lightning with his new "800 hp" motor.

We saw a 40 rwhp gain on my old car going from a 2 chamber Flowmaster to an SLP muffler. Ask Dave. He was there.

Also, a 3" Hooker Aerochamber didn't hurt my power any on my current combo as compared to an open pipe.

The XR1 makes good power....they tend to be very glass packy sounding though, IMO. Sorry couldn't think of a better description.

The Edelbrocks seem to work ok....haven't had many cars with those in the shop though.

I used the stock tips on mine. Muffler shop was able to fit them. Mine's a Formula. Looks and sounds stock until you put your foot down.

Dave88LX Jul 17, 2004 11:26 AM

I wish more exhaust companies offered a 'Firebird" exhaust i.e. dual tips...I don't think the Formula looks right otherwise...

Borla tips = PERFECT.

I wouldn't mind even reusing my stock tips.
