MSD optispark
Objective research will show you they are fairly trouble prone and the "features" will just get most guys into trouble.
Do yourself a favor and put an MSD cap and rotor on a stock base, take the $300 you saved and put it towards something useful.

on know there are so many on-going threads about the msd, and I don't mean to hijack the thread.... but is the main problem only with the msd opti unit and not with the cap and rotor?
Say someone's opti is going out from normal use... would it be better to buy a stock cap/rotor set, msd cap/rotor, or just a stock oem opti? or normally when the opti goes bad does it have something to do with the opti besides the cap and rotor of the unit?
sorry need an opti or cap/rotor and am just exploring the vast knowledge and greatly appreciated opinions that this board has to offer...

I have the MSD Opti and I've had some problems, but the problems are currently resolved. Additionally, I also had problems with the GM Opti.
Considering "all factors" I believe the MSD Opti is the better unit! I've also talked with their product engineer and know MSD is working to correct the problems they've had.
I fixed the loose rotor screw issue myself with some longer Allen socket-head screws w/ flat washers and red thread-locker.
