MSD 6AL help

Do you need the RPM module kits before it'll work? I bought a used 6AL four years ago for my old carbed 3rd gen. I never could get it to work and it didn't have the rpm pills. I would like to try it again on my current car. I will order the gm harness for it also.

Re: MSD 6AL help

I am pretty sure you need to have a pill plugged in for it to work. Even if you buy a set of pills and the ign doesnt work, they will rebuild it for $80 or so....

Re: MSD 6AL help

Well I got it all hooked up put a 6k pill in it and it started right up. It has good idle and throttle response. But it won't rev past 3k rpms it feels like the rev limiter. So then I took the 6k pill out and put 6.8k pill in and it goes to 3400 rpm. What could be the problem? I got the gm harness and new blaster coil.

Re: MSD 6AL help

Go to this page of MSD's website and click on their instructions link. It will describe how to set the box for 8 cylinders:

Uh yeah. . . I actually thought is was a switch you turned, obviously not. It's been about 7 years since I've even seen mine.

If both of the wires are cut then you are SOL unless you can get them soldered back together.

I guess another alternative is to get a 12,000rpm pill.
