MSD 6A ignition box, will it work?
 

Hey all, I could get a very cheap price on an MSD 6A ignition. Will it work with my 94' Trans Am? Does it 'connect' to the optispark? If it does, will it fix all the optispark reliability issues? Also if it draws off the optispark, will the optispark's rev limited still work?

I have a 6AL box. It works fine. A 6A box is the same just without the rev limiter. I would recommend buying the wire harness. It make the install way eaiser. It does not plug into the opti. Only the coil. I would upgrade the coil while you are at it. I use a GM blaster coil from MSD. It looks and install the same as the factory unit. One more thing. The factory rev limiter will work. With my 6AL, the factory rev limiter is set and the plug in pill for the MSD unit does not work. The factory rev limiter is in the computer not the opti spark.

Thanks for the reply. Can you completely remove the optispark system when you install either the 6A or 6AL?

No, the 6a(l) are essentially spark amplifiers. They will not cure any optispark problems. If you want to eliminate the opti spark you are going to need to look into the delteq or ltcc systems.
