Motor mount installation
Motor mount installation
Could anyone give some advice on installation of the mounts? Short cuts, or what you have found out to be the best way to change them?
Lots of mount info, on here , but not any I have came across on the install.

Re: Motor mount installation
You will need to loosen the 3 bolts on each side of the crossmember and drop it as low as possible.
Once you've done this, hook a cherry picker up to the engine and maneuver it so that you can get to the bolt that goes through the center of each mount. Once you've got this bolt out, you will have much more room to move the engine around and get the brackets off of the block and the crossmember.
It is definitely not an easy job and it's very dirty, but once the center bolt is out of the mount, and the crossmember is dropped, you should have enough room to work.
If you can't get it done this way, you may want to drop the crossmember completely and use the cherry picker to raise the car itself over the motor.
I have never done it that way though so I can't comment, but from what I've read everybody who pulls the car off the motor has an easier time. If you are just replacing mounts, you may not have to disconnect brake lines but I am not sure.

Have I read right, or is there a side that is easier? The above process sounds like a big job. Anyone just get under there and support engine from under and remove them that way?
Re: Motor mount installation
Well I did my mounts today, took about 4 hours total. I had a very interesting way of lifting the motor. Bottle jack and a long pipe lifting the block buythe oil filter. No way was I going to lift the motor with the oil pan. My mounts were all the way down on metel to metal. You could hear the rubber cracking while I lifted up.
One thing I had to do was grind the ES bushings down on the sides in order to fit in the brackets on the subframe. Where the large bolt goes through.
Now I can feel nothing! Smooth......
