I think my motor is screwed

i went on the hwy to try my nitrous
sprayed @ like 80 km/hr, check engine light came on so i shut her down turned of the nitrous and i was pulling of the hwy and i hear a knocking sound!
i took off the valve covers everythign looked fine
it started while i was slowing down
sounds like its coming from the drivers side cant tell from what!

Spark plugs are good
oil pressure is good
dunnno what to do!!

time to take it apart tomorow

hmmm well lets start with some basics...

is the car STILL making these knock sounds? does the sounds get louder as you rev the engine? how does the car run? does it seem like it runs slower now?

let's check and make sure you didn't bend any pushrods or anything.. take the valve covers off and see if any of the roller rockers seem loose etc..

i'm not trying to bring up bad news YET so let's check these thing's first :)

the drivers side rockers seemed fine no problems there
when i rev the motor the sound SEEMS to stay the same
the car runs fine just gets lots of knocking
i havent had a chance to check the passenger side valve covers cuz of the alternator being in the way.

ALSO

also someone told me to check my y-pipe since this happend when i was de-celerating
i also have a stock timing chain as well if that means anything?

ollie-99 09-23-2003 04:11 AM

this all started happending after i was decelerating for about 10 sec's

hmmm you werent sprayin during decel i'm assuming

check to make sure it's not an exhaust leak also... are you running headers?

it's really hard to say without knowing what kinda knock it is or where it's coming from :blah:

ollie-99 09-23-2003 04:18 AM

sounds like its comin from the drivers side
i got mac headers

and you say the knock DOES or DOESN'T get louder as you rev the engine?

may need to tighten those header gaskets up as well...

ollie-99 09-23-2003 04:30 AM

when i rev it the knock stays about the same

hmmmmm

well you could be in good shape then... you say the car run's fine other than the knock, and the knock definately doesn't get louder with engine speed, and the oil pressure is fine... so i would just start out by checking your exhaust for leaks (y-pipe, headers) tighten all those header bolts when the car cools down...

ollie-99 09-23-2003 06:31 PM

well things aint looking good
i tightened all the header bolts
i started the car and when i rev it the noise DOES get louder!
I did howerver go underneith the car when it was running and its REALLY hard to hear the noise from there
i hope its somthing like lifters or somthing gay like that
i made a video if u guys wanna hear it add me to ur msn

Change your oil, and chisle open the filter. It sounds to me like you spun some bearings, if so the oil will probably have little slivers of metal in it, it will look like glitter. I really hope its not rod bearings, but you are going to have to check sooner or later. Post back with what the oil tells you and if you come up with anything eles.

ollie-99 09-23-2003 06:48 PM

alrigt ill give that a try next!
CROSS UR FINGERS!

ibanez6rg 09-23-2003 07:08 PM

Spun bearing?

SkAchilles beat me to it! :o
