morel lifters

has anyone dyno tested morels? I have mine set at .030 preload, an it seems as if I'm getting valve float around 6600 rpm? Thr car peaks just under 6600, then dramtically falls off by about 30hp at 6800 then picks up again. Alos, if I have valve flaot, would my a/f be affected? I'm running comp beehive springs.

Lifters don't cause valve float, springs do.

Re: morel lifters

I understand thaty, but if the valves are adjusted properly(too tight) couldn't that cause float?

Re: morel lifters

Not float, but it wont let the valves close. It wont rev high. The valves dont float though.

Re: morel lifters

No, it causes the valve not to seat and stay open when it should be closed.

Re: morel lifters

well could that explain why the power falls off so quick at upper rpms?

Re: morel lifters

If ya got them to tight they will be OFF the seat at idle too.
IMO ya got spring problems.

Re: morel lifters

We measured it at 1/3 of a turn if I remember correctly. We check three on each side before deciding on the setting We did this with a dail indicater.

Same here, but I don't know the preload, adjusted until quiet with the car running.

What size/lobe design cam are you running with those springs?

LT4POWER, It is a cam form Bauer Racing, can't tell you too much on the specs, but it is a 24x-24x. It is a comp cam, don;t know what kind of lobes

Re: morel lifters

2/3rds of a turn on 7/16 studs is .030" preload, but as any hyd lifter the less the better.

Re: morel lifters

Bret, You say the less the better? Do you think setting them closer to zero lash could possibly make mor epower across the rpm band or just up top? Also what disadvantages are there for adjusting the valves to close to zero lash, other than more valvetrain noise?
