Modded????
I recently purchased a 96 Z M6 from a dealer. The engine was rebuilt as well. I noticed this Z is quicker than my 96 Z A4 I had before it was stolen. I have and air foil and an aftermarket MAF. This is were my quesion comes into play.... When I'm in 1st or any other gear for that matter, when I reach about 3500 - 4000 RPM's I notice a whining noise like as if I had a blower in there. There is no mechanical failure whatsoever. In fact if I were to punch it I will spin my tires. My question is, Is that normal on an M6 or do I have some type of cam of some sort. It does not lope at all however, It has noticeable HP if I were to punch it from that RPM range. The whining noice is in question.
Thanks in advance. |
Re: Modded????
Well, the M6 eats less HP than the A4, that's why it feels faster. The whining sound could be the M6 internals going bad

Re: Modded????
It could be the Alt. or the power steering pump. Get a stick,or breaker, stethoscope and try to replicate the sound in neutral fiddling with the throttle linkage at the thottle body and listening to some of the componants. Those kinda sounds drive me nutty till I find out what they are :D
Also the A4 and the M6 cars have a different rear gear. You are feeling the difference between 2.73 and a 3.42 rear gear(most likely,or 3.23 to 3.42) AND the lessened powertrain loss associated w/ the M6. |
Re: Modded????
