Mini Starter Install With AS&M Headers

I just got my starter that I ordered from Summit. Went to install it and one of the long bolts that hold the starter together is hitting the collector on my header (AS&M). The P/N from Summit is SUM-820323. It's a mini starter so I didn't figure that I'd have any problems fitting it in there. I thought wrong. I know that some with the LT4 starter and AS&M's or RKSport headers have a tight fit, is anyone running this starter with AS&M's? Any ideas on what I can do, besides "send it back" Which is what I'll probably have to do. :D Thanks

I took another look and the mounting plate is adjustable. I rotated the starter but for some reason it won't bolt up. the inside bolt won't go in. It's almost like the teeth aren't meshing or something. It is a 153 tooth starter. Any Ideas? This is just a starter and it's kicking my butt.

I have the exact same starter (chrome version) and it fits perferct ! I don't have ASM's so maybe the headers are the problem ? I have this installed on 96 LT1 with FLP Longtubes, I did have to reclock it to make it fit ;)

Sorry for the low light on the pics:

Re: Mini Starter Install With AS&M Headers

I wanted to post the fix for installing this starter so it may help someone doing a search. With some help from those who posted, I found out that I had to grind/cut off a small chunk of the starter mount ( metal where the bolts go through ) where there was already a spot cut out to fit around the oil pan which wasn't big enough. I used a dremmel and a cutting wheel Now it works great. Thanks for everyone's help!

All I can say is we did AS&M on a 93 T/A, The smallest starter CSR (csi) makes fits perfect, if it is the next size up (from the smallest) it hits the header.... very annoying.

I run this starter on my setup:

Smallest one I could find and it still barely fit.

And it's a mini. So in order to fit I'm going to have to "modify" or dent my y pipe so that the starter doesn't hit. I wouldn't do this but my y pipe is already damaged. Looks like the starter stated above is the only one that I've heard of that fits without modification, not including the stock starter.
