Might do heads...help!
Might do heads...help!
My gf might pay for my heads to be P&Ped, so I might actually have to take them off......or pay someone else to
How complicated is the removal and install? I'm assuming you need to pull off your headers, but what else big has to come off? How many hours should it take?

Did you do your cam? It is a lot less work then the cam. That is for sure. I am going to pull my heads off with in the next few months.. From the looks of it, it seems easy enough.

To take off heads (More or less in order, maybe skipping some stuff here and there):
--Drain coolant and oil
--Pull one of your smaller radiator hoses, then use compressed air at moderate pressure to blow remaining coolant out... saves mess later on.
Disconnect / unbolt:
--Wiring harness
--Intake solenoids (to get to intake bolts)
--TB (to get to intake bolts)
--fuel lines
--alternator
--valve covers
--rocker arms & pushrods
--Intake manifold
--Exhaust manifolds
--Heads
Hope that helps...

I hate telling anyone that I'm afraid that they're getting in over their head, but from what I grasp I would recommend you at least find someone experienced to help you. Taking your heads off is serious and unless you do it right, you're in for a world of hurt. Also, the heads might be expensive, but there are other expenses you need to consider. I've got an engineering exam tomorrow so I don't care to elaborate right now, but email or PM me if you'd like more info.
Your girlfriend giving you heads is almost as great as your girlfriend giving you head...maybe better!
If you'd like a great set of heads done for the right price shoot me an email or PM me. LT1Brutus@MASCperformance.com

From what I understand, it isn't all that hard......I have done all my mods besides the cam, and I have a haynes manual and I'm going to purchase another LT1 engine book that people were posting was a good resource.
As far as what LT1Brutus said... here's what I would do:
Go through the entire process on paper. A Haynes manual is a PITA to read for this because it divides things by maintenance tasks, and you'll be paging through several sections of the manual. But it still gives you a good idea of what lies ahead. Don't let it intimidate you, but do pay attention to little tips like the fact that you should only pry the intake manifold off at the front passenger-side lip... that kind of stuff.
Also, ask a TON of questions if you have to. If you do a search for my user name you'll find that I made probably 15 posts in 2 days over January when I was pulling my heads and cam, and that was my first time really working on a car.
As far as timeframe, when I pulled my heads it took me about a week going at a snails pace. Now that I've had the experience I could probably get everything pulled in one day.
Once gain, good luck!
