Mark Williams???

I called Mark Williams to get them to build me a 3' chrome moly drive shaft. I told him that on my 12 bolt I have a 1350 yoke. He then told me in that case I need to buy a 1350 yoke for the transmission side to balance the whole assembly.I have never heard of this and the only reason I ask if its true is that they are asking for another $185 for the yoke itself not to mention $375 for the drive shaft.

Thanks......Lys

Anybody?????

I didn't know that about driveshafts, so I can't comment directly. However, on the theory that a chain is only as stron as the weakest link, I don't see that it makes sense to have just one 1350 yoke. Mark Williams knows their stuff and makes a good product. Pricey though.

I have had great experience with Denny's Driveshaft.

I have heard that the Denny's shafts are really heavy when compared to stock??? The Mark Williams 3' crome moly is only 2#'s heavier. You wouldn't hapen to know if this is true or not would you???

Thanks again...Lys

MW builds the DS out of components. They have a selection of super strong 1350 tranny spline shafts/yoke assemblies, specifically for each type of tranny - 700R4, TH400, T56, etc. That is what they charge you the $185 for. I doubt they even make anything weaker than a 1350... it wouldn't make any sense. If you need a chrome moly DS, you need solid 1350 u-joints.

I would think that the size of the joint affects the width spacing of the bearing caps, and that determines the relative velocity of the shaft as it rotates "around a corner". You would need both ends of the DS to have the same u-joint dimensions, or it isn't going to rotate smoothly. At least I think that's the case.

My MW 3" CM, with the 1350 input yoke, for the T56 setup weighed 19#. The stock steel DS weighed 17#.

Fred......The Mark Williams are a little pricey. I do agree that it makes perfect sense about the balance. The Denny's are alot cheaper hence the reason I ask how heavy they are. Anyone got any idea???

Thanks for all the replies!!!
