Another won't start thread.

Okay my 93 Trans Am has decided not to start, I am getting all my accessories in the car however the car doesnt even try to turn over. I tried to push start it as well (which usually works) to no prevail. The battery is new, the ignition wires are new, spark plugs, o2's, map sensor, thermostat... lots of new things. I'm guessing ICM, perhaps clutch position sensor(I believe?).

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Another won't start thread.

it's between the ignition, clutch pos. sensor, and starter...any problems when you've turned the key before, like something in the column was making a poor connection?

Re: Another won't start thread.

Please be more specific.

Does the starter motor engage the flywheel and crank the motor?

Saying it wont "turn over" means different things to different people and gets confusing.

If the starter motor will not crank the engine you will get a completely different diagnosis than if it does crank but will not fire.

Re: Another won't start thread.

check if voltage is being sent to the starter while a friend tries to start it...if it isn't the starter, you know it's the clutch pos. sensor or ignition junk in the column.

Re: Another won't start thread.

Voltage is going to the starter, the fuel pump engages when you turn the key, but still no start, not even a click. We successfully push started it once. Does it still click with a bad ICM?

I think it's the clutch position sensor switch, does anyone have a part number?

As for clutch position sensor, does it have a correct name, or is it that as well?

1) If there is voltage at the trigger lead on the starter, but it does not even click then the starter is bad.

2) A bad ICM (Ignition Control Module) would not prevent a car from cranking. It would prevent it from firing and running.

3) If you have identified power at the starter trigger lead with the key in the "start" position, why would you still suspect the clutch safety switch as being faulty?

4) All of this assumes the battery and fuses are all good.

Re: Another won't start thread.

Okay so my car.... no clicking to the solenoid, so the starter isn't kicking in, can't even push start it before we could but now it won't even do that. One time we push started it barely managed to stay running and you had to be at 3000rpm to keep it going. Do you think it sound like an opti symptom?

Re: Another won't start thread.

Now the fuel pump doesn't even engage when you turn the key, nor will the car shoot codes when we hook it up. This does not seem opti to me... PCM?

I see people having won't start threads all the time, and no one has had a problem similar to this?

Re: Another won't start thread.

Your symptoms seemed to have compounded since your first post......so now you turn the key to on(assuming good batter/bat connections) and acessories etc come on, gauges? But no fuel pump noise? Have you checked all your fuses/relays, etc?

I've checked the fuses in the fuse box under the hood and the one on the side of the dash. The gauge lights go on, headlights, cd player etc. But no start.

Re: Another won't start thread.

Personally I would start with a new ignition switch, and see what happens....
