manual cutout

http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=5199&BQ=vw

anybody ever use a cutout like this one. do they leak. i liked to leave it open all the time but i know there will be many encounters with texas state troopers. and i would like to be able to quickly shut it. i guess it would be ok if it leaked as long as it got significantly more quiet.
thanks

I haven't seen one of those manual style ones for a 3" pipe. There are electric cutouts that do the same job, but with a motor. Make sure you buy a good one, or one that carries a significantly large warranty/replacement policy, as I hear they tend to **** out on you after a while. They will all probably run you at least more than $100 though.

issues with the JC Whitney piece (or any manual cutout)

1. too small...haven't seen one come near 3" yet.

2. Cast iron construction makes it hard to weld in properly without leaking, but thats ok because..

3. leaks like a b!tch no matter what you do with it. The manual valve just isn't a good enough design to seal properly.

IMO save your money.
