mac headers
does anyone know where i can get some mac headers and y pipe for a 1995 z28 and have them coated because i believe they are not coated?

They are HTS coated, but most people would recommend getting them ceramic coated. www.ls1speed.com has them for 423.99 and i think they can ceramic coat them for you for about 150 I'm not sure. They're located in IL

Try www.ebay.com Thats where I got mine. And they are coated but not Jet Hot coated. The coating has lasted alright with me other than the y-pipe.

Mine are rusting pretty bad after only 3 months....:(

the "out of the box" coating on the mac headers is crap. I had them on the car, and the coating went to hell quickly. I took them off the car, sent them to HPC who stripped them, and re-coated them.
30,000 miles later - they are still looking good. Not nearly as shinny as they were when freshly coated (but I have never polished them) - but no rust spots, no flaking etc - still a solid coat on the headers. Very Happy with HPC coating. http://www.hpcoatings.com/ |
I have some for sale, check out my details in the FS section or e-mail me.

HTS (high temp silicone) is basically paint. There is no substitute for ceramic coating. Mine look like crap. :(

I got JetHot 2000 Coating, back in 2000
Its still looks great! |
Go to www.jet-hot.com. Jet-hot will sell you jet-coated MAC Headers and y-pipe for around $550. Look into it there..

Pics of mine from this past week in my website in sig. HTS coating still looks as it did when i installed them a year ago.

mac headers
I installed mac headers on my 1995 TA conv. 6 months ago. They look terrible and have a leak that I cannot resolve. I would not recommend them.
|
About the only way to fix the leak in the DS header is to weld the slip joint together. Even after getting a new u-clamp and using header sealant the sucker still leaks (blew the sealant out after a few days). Take the steering linkage out, put the header in with a little torque on the bolts, tack weld the primary together, then take it out, finish it up and reinstall it. They're a great header and fit perfectly for me but it's just that one leak prone joint that needs some TLC during install. Felt a HUGE difference afterwards too... mainly at 4000+rpm.
Whoa.... i'm drunk.... I hope i typed that good cuz i sure cain't read it :D  |
