mac header installation

when you install mac mid length headers, do you have to relocate any brackets? does anything mount to the factory exhaust manifolds? or is it just a simple swap? and when installing mac mid lengths does it get rid of the AIR/polution controll lines n all?

100% bolt on no modifacations your headers should have the tubes on them to hook up the air system

From the engine to the intermediate pipe *rimshot*

depends on how good you are with tools, how many snags you run into, if you are able to overcome those snags fairly quickly. It's pretty straightforward. It took me a little extra time because I had to stop for weather and I had a little problem getting the passenger side to line up as I bought used headers and they warped a little...but other than that, pretty straight forward.

Depends on if you run into any problems and if everything mounts up like it should. I would give yourself at least 2 full days if you have never done anything like this and you dont run into any problems. Took me 5 full days but I dont want to talk about it

I spent a week, few hours each day. Also had to wait on some parts. If emmssions aren't a concern it's a good time to do the !AIR and !EGR. Also do plugs and wires.

If you search on the internet for Jordon Musser's website, he has a awesome installation guide for Mac Headers and y-pipe. I recommend that installation guide before you start. I don't have the address available right now since I am at work but as soon as I get home I will try and see if I have it bookmark or I have the guide saved on my hard drive. E-mail me or send me a PM.

took me 6 days with about1-3 hours and one full day on the first day, but i had a problme, i bought mine used and the 2nd cylinder pipe didnt line up, but i did get every thing else on the first day, hardest part was taking the old crap off and out. Then my dad solved a way to get the pipe ove the whole, and we did it in 10 minutes, so technically after taking it all out and putting in i thinnk 1-2 days

I was thinking of SLP's shorties for the longest time and then I heard about MAC being mid lengths. I would like to go long tubes but I dont have enough mods yet to bolt them on and also afraid of not passing visuals over here in California. I guess MACs bolts on easier than shorties? So I take it that MACs have a better performance gain than shorties. Mids are legal right?

If that's the case..will a set of MAC's fit up to my stock Y-pipe or does it come with one? And does the y-pipe have Cats? I want headers that will fit up to my stock Y-pipe w/cats so I can pass visual inspection at smog. If it comes with a y-pipe with no cats, thats cool! But I would still need the headers to bolt onto my Y-pipe for inspections....

I have a 96 Z28...

Thanks!

It took me 8 hours in one day to do a set of mac headers, off road y-pipe and throttle body bypass. I took my time and the 8 hours also included running into a couple snags and going to the store for some bolts for the off road pipe. Probably the easiest header job I have done. Longtubes....now they are a different story.

I thought Midlengths and Shorties were the same thing...isn't the term "Mid length" just a marketing strategy?

Isn't there headers of Shorties, Mid Lengths and Long Tubes? Am I wrong? At first I thought there was just shorties & Long Tubes until headers such as "MAC" was mentioned and people say they are described as being a midlength header because of the design. I got off the phone a few minutes ago with a vendor and we were talking about the MAC's bolting on my 96. I mentioned the term "mids" when I was asking for assistance in some questions I had and he didn't say anything as far as correcting me. But then again maybe he didn't care to comment.. anyhow? lol

Not sure. I guess the MACs are longer than most shorty setups, and shorter than most longtube headers... hence the midlength term? I know they give the best gains of any other non-longtube header, that's why I got mine.
