AS&M Headers?

Who on here has Arizona Speed and Marine headers? how do you like them? Hows the fit and finish and stuff? And, for all of you dual cat people, did you get the dual to single cat setup, or what? I want to keep the car emissions legal, but want to get some power, but dont want to lose the ground clearance with long tubes.

I loved my AS&Ms in my 95 (1 cat) no ground clearence, they looked good, and after the car was running for a half hour you could touch them after like 5 minutes.

Unfortunatly, they're expensive as all hell!! Other than that though, I had no complaints.

i love mine, plugs are difficult to get to after you have the headers on your car. i got mine off ebay pretty cheap brand new
i do have to replace the the header gasket on the driver side though, its leaking pretty bad

Re: AS&M Headers?

The headers are great. I went from two cats to a one high flow cat. It is ilegal to move the cats and you won't pass emissions. The fit and finish is great. Spark plug access could be better but it's not bad. Anything's better then manifolds. I do notice if I go over steep speed bumps, I do scrape a tad bit but I'm lowered with the pro-kit. I gained 4 tenths in the quarter mile in 100 degree weather. I think that's pretty good. I haven't run in cold weather yet.

i had RKsport headers $600
(identical to AS&M, except arizona's finish is better)
plug access isnt that great
your only option is to do a single cat conversion
which if you have strict emissions you may not pass
you need an S pipe to make your catback work
you need a cat for single cat cars.
you need o2 sims or computer reprogramming for the rear o2's
i didnt have to jack the motor up, but i had to replace my motor mounts

I have them, love them. Ground clearance is great, plug access sucks and wire routing sucks, but man the power.

The single cat is NOT your only option. Random Technologies makes a dual cat Y-Pipe that fits the ASM headers.

i have them and they are nice. Plug access isn't to bad, and routing the plug wires, i used a few tie-wraps to keep them off the headers. I do have a slight exhaust leak at the Y connector just before the cat. Does anybody else have this problem?

Brandon94Z28 12-11-2003 11:39 AM

I had the RK sport ones and the fit and finish were excellent.

put plugs in when i did the headers and never had to do them agan, so I really can't comment on the ease of changing.

i have as&m headers.plug access isnt bad on the drivers side.pass side is a pain in the a** though.the finish is very nice and the sound is great.only thing i recomend is getting aluminum header gaskets and copper y pipe gaskets.some stage 8 header bolts would be nice too

I have installed AS&M and RK SPORT headers..Both are really decent 1 3/4 mid length headers and they are very much alike, but for a couple hundred bucks less, I used RK Sports on my own car.. They were great headers....Plug acces could be tricky though.

I have them. They are often times considered the best header if not going with long tubes. Plug access is a bit of a PITA but other than that, I'm very happy with them. The car makes great power for its mods.

As for the exhaust, I've got a custom built dual cat exhaust being used with the single cat headers...

I like mine, great fit and finish.

I have them with the dual high-flow cat Y-pipe from Random Tech. Great combo but expensive. Plug access isn't great, but better than manifolds. Otherwise, no complaints. The change from stock manifolds/single cat made 44rwhp on my (at that time) mild 383+blower setup.

Just a quick question. I'm really trying to decide which headers I want for Christmas.

Are they that much better than the '94-'95 style MACs? The MACS look like they are easily as long as the AS&M or RKSPORT headers, but they are 1 5/8" instead of 1 3/4". That's only a 15% difference in diameter with about the same length.

I wish there were dyno runs that showed how well each performed. It is obvious that the AS&M's should be better due to the diameter, but how many HP are we really talking here, maybe 3? If the MAC's get you 15-20 HP, then what do the AS&M's do?

The AS&M's look like very good headers, but I'm wondering how much better they are since we can get jet0hot coated MAC's for $561 to our door.

Depends on what your goals are. If you're planning a high HP motor in the future, I'd go with the ASM's. If you're going to do cam and maybe heads at the most, go for the Mac's. The ASM's are proven to support up to 750 RWHP without being a restriction. The Mac's probably won't do that. I say probably because I've never seen solid numbers.
